The Motor Assy J6 for the Mitsubishi RV-2A and RV-3AJ is the drive motor of the sixth axis (tool flange rotation) of these widely used compact robots. As a brushless DC motor with integrated encoder, this servo motor provides precise position control of the last orientation axis and thus determines the rotational orientation of the mounted tool at the tool center point.
Technical features and function
The RV-2A/3AJ series is among Mitsubishi’s most compact 6-axis robots and is widely used in electronics manufacturing, laboratory automation and small-parts assembly. The J6 motor on the tool flange has to deliver maximum precision with minimum frame size. Typical applications require exact rotary positions for screwing operations, plug-in assembly or adhesive application. The brushless servo motor delivers this precision reliably and maintenance-free over millions of cycles.
Installation position
Installed at the outermost end of the kinematic chain in the wrist module. The J6 motor rotates the ISO tool flange and is thus the last active motion axis of the robot. Due to its exposed position, it is subject to mechanical shocks and vibrations that can arise from tool contact with the workpiece.

Availability
Mitsubishi has discontinued production. Spare parts are now only available in limited quantities worldwide. Due to the wide distribution of the RV-2A/3AJ series, demand for replacement motors is particularly high.
