The Motor Assy J6 for the Mitsubishi RV-12S series is the drive motor of the sixth and last axis of this 6-axis industrial robot with 12 kg payload. This brushless DC motor with integrated encoder ensures precise position control of the tool flange rotation and thus determines the rotational orientation of the mounted tool at the TCP (tool center point).
Technical features and function
The J6 axis rotates the robot’s tool flange and must dynamically handle the weight and inertia of the mounted tool (gripper, welding torch, etc.). With the RV-12S and its 12 kg payload, considerable masses can be attached to the flange, which places high demands on the torque and control quality of the motor. The brushless servo motor offers precise speed control and accurate positioning even under load.
Installation position
The J6 motor is installed in the outermost wrist module and directly drives the rotation of the ISO tool flange. It is the last motor in the kinematic chain and therefore the furthest away from the robot pedestal. The weight and frame size of the motor directly influence the wrist dynamics.

Availability
Mitsubishi has discontinued production. Spare parts are now only available in limited quantities worldwide. A defective J6 motor means that the robot can no longer orient its tool correctly — the result is an immediate production stop.
