The Motor Assy J1/J2 for the Mitsubishi RV-4A is a versatile servo motor that is used as the drive of both the base axis (J1) and the shoulder axis (J2) of this 6-axis robot with 4 kg payload. This brushless DC motor with integrated encoder ensures the precise position control of both main axes and is thus a central element of the robot kinematics.
Technical features and function
The use of an identical motor type for J1 and J2 considerably simplifies spare parts stocking. Both axes require comparable torques and dynamics: the J1 axis rotates the entire robot horizontally, while the J2 axis swivels the upper arm vertically. The brushless servo motor operates with low wear and delivers a uniform torque across the entire speed range. The high-precision encoder enables repeatabilities of a few hundredths of a millimeter.
Installation position
Mounted in the robot base as the J1 motor, it drives the horizontal base rotation. As the J2 motor, it sits in the shoulder joint and moves the upper arm up and down. When ordering, please state for which axis position the motor is required, as the mechanical connection is identical, but the parameterization in the controller is axis-specific.

Availability
Mitsubishi has discontinued production. Spare parts are now only available in limited quantities worldwide. We recommend keeping at least one replacement motor per robot in stock in order to keep the downtime to a minimum in the event of a failure.
