The Motor Assy J5 for the Mitsubishi RV-2A and RV-3AJ is the drive of the fifth axis (wrist pitch) of these compact 6-axis robots. As a brushless DC motor with integrated encoder, this servo motor enables the precise position control of the pitch movement of the wrist and contributes significantly to exact tool orientation.
Technical features and function
The J5 axis controls the inclination (pitch movement) of the wrist and thus determines the approach angle of the tool relative to the workpiece. In assembly, joining and coating tasks, precise J5 positioning is essential. The RV-2A/3AJ compact robots are often used in confined installation situations, which is why the J5 motor is particularly small and lightweight in design. Despite its compact dimensions, it delivers sufficient torque for precise movements.
Installation position
Mounted in the robot’s wrist module, between J4 (rotation) and J6 (flange rotation). The J5 axis enables the tool to be tilted up and down. A defect typically manifests itself in position errors in inclined working positions or increased vibrations in the wrist area.

Mitsubishi has discontinued production. Spare parts are now only available in limited quantities worldwide. The RV-2A/3AJ series is particularly widespread in electronics manufacturing and small-parts assembly.
